Murder & Incendiarism
The Murder & Incendiarism at Babbicombe was the title of this broadsheet which was published shortly after John Lee had been committed for trial at Exeter Assizes. The chorus of one song expressed doubt about John Lee's guilt which has continued to the present day: 'John Lee has been sent for trial, Committed for murder there is no denial, Whether he done it, it is hard to say, It will be proved on some future day'.
