A Quiet Wedding
John Lee married Jessie Bulled by special licence at Newton Abbot Congregational Church on Friday 22 January 1909. None of the couple's relatives attended the wedding which was shrouded in secrecy to avoid unwanted publicity - even the bride's employers at Newton Abbot Workhouse were unaware of her plans.
