Herbert Whitley was the man who founded Paignton Zoo. One of his favourite animals was the gorilla. He also liked farm animals with a shade of blue.

The aim of the zoo is to protect endangered species such as the Golden Lion Tamarin.

Paignton Zoo now has many different species of animals, which have plenty of space to roam around in their enclosures.
