Detail of the Painted Ceiling
This is above the staircase in the Main Hall. The ceiling itself was made as a replica of Lebrun's design for Louis XIVth's celebrated Ambassadors' Staircase at Versailles. It was based on mythological themes of events early in Louis' early reign. The original in Versailles was built in the 1670's but was destroyed in 1752.
