Isaac Merritt Singer
This photo was probably taken in about 1865. It appears to be one of a matching set with that of his wife Isabella.
Isabella was his second wife and the mother of his last six legitimate children.
Born in 1811 in New York State of poor German/ Dutch parents.
Singer was a great entrepreneur and innovator. He patented his sewing machine in 1851 then marketed it worldwide.
By the 1860's he had amassed a personal fortune of thirteen million dollars. However Singer's scandalous personal life prompted his removal from active management in 1863.
