DELMONTE (earlier name "Rock House") on Waldon Hill below the "Point" is much older than any of the other houses there. It was the holiday home of Mr Gladstone Senior and several members of his family in 1832 (including W. E., later four times Prime Minister
Two other prominent hotels were products of the Victorian era. The VICTORIA & ALBERT HOTEL was built in 1867. It underwent extensive alterations about 1870 under the supervision of George Souden Bridgman. It was while this was being done that Isaac Singer stayed there and he commissioned the architect to build him his "Wigwam" at Paignton.
